Joyce Mercer
Joyce is a professional statistician, with two decades of experience working in mathematical and statistical analysis for government in Northern Ireland.
Joyce is educated to Masters level, with recent postgraduate study at Queens University Belfast.
Joyce took part in the Young Enterprise Scheme as a Business Consultant, delivering a number of programmes in Primary Schools, which was an amazing experience. This was followed by an opportunity delivering the Business in the Community ‘Time to Count’ programme which encouraged those in STEM careers to work with children in primary school to develop confidence with maths. It was this positive experience in the classroom that ignited an interest and training in tutoring.
Joyce has been working as a tutor with Tuition Time in Whitehead for a number of years. Joyce enjoys working with students at all levels, specialising in preparation for the Transfer Test in Year 7, English and Maths to Year 10 as well as with those who are preparing for and resitting GCSE Maths, papers M2 and M6. Students understand concepts in different ways and not everyone learns well in a large classroom environment, this is the specific focus of Joyce’s tutoring style, which is to develop both subject knowledge and confidence as well as being tailored to the individual person.
Joyce’s current area of research interest is the teaching of mathematics and mathematical concepts to neurodivergent people.
In what little spare time she has, Joyce enjoys travelling, the cinema and playing golf.
Joyce lives in Whitehead with her husband and two sons.
